This is a fundraising event for the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.

 

INTERNATIONAL LIGHTHOUSES WEEKEND

17th & 18th August 2013

Queenscliffe Maritime Museum will celebrate this weekend at Point Lonsdale lightstation:

·       Flag raising ceremony 10am Saturday

·       Lighthouse tours both days (bookings required)

·       Fog Horn soundings both days to open & close proceedings

·       Fog Horn shed open to the public (a rare occurrence)

·       Broadcasts to lighthouses around the world by Geelong Amateur Radio Club

  • Half hour tours both days 9.30am to 3.30pm

  • Old compressed air fog horn will be sounded at 10.00am and 3.00pm Saturday and Sunday

  • Children's Art Competition  - details of this competition will be announced shortly and entry forms will be available on our website  info@maritimequeensclif.org.au  Prizes will be announced at the flag raising ceremony on Saturday 18 August 10.05am at the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse  All entries will be displayed at the Queenscliffe maritime Museum from August 15 - 31, 2012

  • Entry Fees for Lighthouse tours: Adults $7.00, Concessions $6.00, Children ($5.00)    Children must be 5 years or over.  Appropriate footwear essential (no high heels, thongs or slip on shoes)                              

Point Lonsdale Lightstation access is by agreement with the Port of Melbourne Corporation.

HMAS GOORANGAI SERVICE  2013 Sunday 17th November 2013

This annual service commemorates the sinking of the Minesweeper HMAS Goorangai in Port Phillip on November 20 1940 with the loss of all hands, and is held each year on the Sunday nearest to the anniversary

The ceremony is conducted by naval organisations and local RSL clubs as follows:

11.00am

Marshall at Queenscliffe RSL, King Street

 

March to Ocean View car park (south end of Hesse Street)

11.30 am

Ceremony at Goorangai memorial cairn

 

The Museum has a permanent HMAS Goorangai display including magnificent models of HMAS Goorangai and MV Duntroon, and artefacts

The full story of HMAS Goorangai and the sinking may be found on the Maritime Archaeology Association of Victoria website

 

 

 

ANNUAL COLLECTABLES & MARITIME MARKET

Sunday 3rd November 2013

ALL THINGS  PRE-LOVED or HAND MADE.

 Treasures and collectables of all kinds including books,memorabilia, buoys,marine motors and parts,  model boats, anchors, paintings, prints, small wooden vessels.  Something for everyone.

 

The Annual Collectables &  Maritime Market is held in the Museum grounds, 2 Wharf Street, Queenscliff Victoria

Entry fees to be advised closer to the date, Children under 16 still free

If you wish to donate items to the Museum stall please leave them at the Museum between 10.00am-4.00pm Mon - Friday
